This book provides a great start for those people doing a wedding on a tight budget. It gives sound advice that can help the bride & groom put together a wedding that is original yet affordable.The strongest feature is the author's discussions of specific weddings. Each wedding highlighted provides a detailed list of all the wedding expenses and the total wedding cost. The weddings also run from a little under $2000 to almost $5000, so it does give a wider, more practical array than other similar books. It gives indepth information on specific items, how they saved money on some items and what they did to make their wedding special.The author also points out how important it is to set priorities in your budget. She gives samples and this notes you should focus your budget accordingly on the items that are most important to you. May seem simple, but it is key to success.Overall, the books is a good starting point for planning the wedding of your dreams without breaking the bank.I would also suggest "How to Have an Elegant Wedding for $5000 (or Less)" as it has some more practical suggestions as well.

The book is called Priceless Weddings not Perfect Weddings. The book is for realistic brides that dont expect to have everything that they want and expect this book will tell you some secret formula.The book gives great ideas to make your wedding unique and makes great suggestions on finding friends of friends or family that will give you a discount. There is nothing wrong with using connections to get a great deal. I had a wedding with over 100 people, it was professionally catered, a professional photographer, a professional florist, a huge professionally made wedding cake, a professional DJ, and it was all under $5000. Friends and family said we must have spent a fortune and said it was one of the greatest weddings that they had ever attended.

Was concerned at first that this book would be outdated, but found many ideas and tips that are still VERY practical. Loved how it included real weddings and how they saved $. Perfectly describes step-by-step how to come up with a budget and stick to it. This was very useful!

This book was a total waste of money. The elegant weddings cost so little because the brides have family or friends who provide food, liquor, photos, reception sites, etc. If you have an aunt who is a professional wedding photographer, you probably don't need to spend money on a book that tells you to ask her to take your photos. If you don't have family who can provide these services, or you don't want to ask your friends to provide a dish for a potluck reception, then do yourself a favor and save the money you planned to spend on this book for your wedding itself. It should receive zero stars.

This book was a helpful tool for staying within my budget. There were lots of ideas and alternatives to the traditional $25,000 wedding budgets.

While the day is not yet upon us, I know it won't be long before my daughter will be planning the day of her dreams. While I want her to have a day that she will remember forever because of how special it made her feel, we will definitely be on a budget and can in no way complete with all the wedding shows she faithfully watches when she has school breaks on TV! Nor do I want to feel pressured to "keep up with the Joneses". But is it possible to have the "day of your dreams" for under $5000? I am still going to have to wait to see if my daughter jumps on board with the idea but Priceless Weddings for Under $5000 by Kathleen Kennedy has given me the tools to at least consider options rather than my daughter having to work for years to pay off her wedding just like many work to pay off school loans. Perhaps she will be able to work within the budget we allow her?I loved the testimonials in the beginning of the book. So many "how to" books are theory so it is wonderful to know that someone has actually made this work. You may not be able to have a wedding that will be written up in the Post or featured on Four Weddings but I think if you follow the guidelines and prioritize what you really do want, a budget of $5,000 could be enough. The key, as usual, is who you know. Do you know someone who can make your wedding cake? Take photos? Alter your dress? Is spending thousands on a dress a priority for you or is something more affordable an option?I guess some of the suggestions just won't work for many people but weddings used to be a time when friends and family all worked together to make it happen and be such a special day. If that time has passed, perhaps you won't find much use for several of the ideas. However, personally, I would like to see those days return. Even if you don't have family and friends ready to roll up their sleeves and help with your day, I think reading through the book offers a bride and her family much to consider and covers all the areas of planning the day of your dreams. You won't discover any magical formula but you will find wise options in one place with advice and thoughts given by someone who has more experience that I or anyone else I have access to.I did receive this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review and am in no way obligated to write a positive one.

My interest in peptic ulcer disease is personal. I had a peptic ulcer. The year was 1962. I was chief resident in the maternity ward of a big city hospital just outside the center of Paris. Shifts lasted 36 hours. Between consultations, we performed a few Cesarean sections. On many occasions we saved the lives of poor, desperate women who had suffered at the hands of back-alley abortionists―at that time, abortion procedures were illegal. We also delivered babies whose mothers had been referred to us by midwives because they considered the births too risky. Getting any sleep was out of the question, and even when I managed to string together a few precious hours of shut-eye, they were usually interrupted by Gerard Zwang, a fellow doctor and the future author of Feminine Sexuality, who was even then researching his sexology masterpiece with the aid of vocal female partners on the other side of the paper-thin wall next to which I slept, or at least tried to sleep. The doctor who was the head of the maternity ward was a closet morphine addict. He actually forbade my colleagues and me from giving anesthetic or tetanus shots to our patients. It was a most stressful time. The food I managed to eat on the run was nondescript. The red wine I drank made coppers shine and my stomach cringe. I smoked a pack a day of non-filtered cigarettes. The chief resident in cardiology managed to melt the engine of my prized crimson Simca-1000. He forgot to check the oil and never noticed the fumes gushing out of the back of the car. I learned later that the man had no sense of smell. And to top things off, I was going through a very painful divorce. My ulcer pain was rhythmic. Like clockwork, it occurred four hours after each so-called meal I ate on the run. I controlled the pain with bismuth, my stomach medication of choice. An upper GI X-ray series confirmed my suspicions: it was an ulcer. “Second duodenum; quite unusual,” mumbled the radiologist. I kept on swallowing my bismuth subnitrate not knowing that it had the potential to induce severe brain damage. I injected myself with a concoction of vitamin C and iron that was horribly painful. In October of that year, I was drafted into the army. At the Château de Vincennes, an impressive dark castle on the outskirts of Paris that occasionally served as a state prison, I asked the physician on duty for some painkilling bismuth. This doctor was counting the minutes until his return to civilian life, but he managed to give me enough attention to notice my ulcer pain. After some initial tests, he called an ambulance. I was transported to a military hospital, where I got a gastroscopy with a rigid tube, quite different from the flexible tubes of today, another series of X-rays, more bismuth, and a confirmation of my diagnosis. I was relieved of my military duties. The training ship on which I was supposed to have been the physician on board left port without me on a twenty-month cruise around the world. Forty-two years later, the scar from my peptic ulcer is still visible on barium X-ray pictures. I stopped smoking thirty years ago. I eat―as much as possible―great food at regular hours and drink only superb wines. I am happily married. I love my life between the house in Northern California and my job in Asia. But I know what ulcer pain feels like. I shall always know. That is why I have written this book. After decades of making sure I was familiar with the latest medical discoveries in ulcer treatments, I have found a simple, nontoxic, natural approach to relieving ulcer pain and treating ulcers. While I may not have been the one to actually make the discovery, I am pleased to provide the first guide to this remarkable nutrient. For nearly a decade, Zinc-Carnosine has been effectively used in Japan to treat peptic ulcer disease and other gastrointestinal complaints. The supplement has been nothing short of miraculous in its ability to bolster the stomach’s natural defenses and relieve ulcer pain and suffering. Chapter 4 looks at the causes of ulcer disease―stress, smoking, alcohol, and others―that usually fall under the ambiguous “lifestyle” heading. Chapter 5 investigates ulcer symptoms and explains all the different diagnostic techniques, their costs and side effects, and why doctors choose one technique over the other. The next three chapters take up ulcer treatments. Chapter 6 looks at standard drug treatments and antibiotic treatments for H. pylori infections, the drugs’ side effects, how accurate different treatments are, and why doctors choose different treatments for their patients. Chapter 7 examines a handful of natural supplements and folk remedies for peptic ulcer disease. Chapter 8 brings readers up to date on Zinc-Carnosine, the novel ulcer treatment that I believe should be an option for everyone who is being treated for peptic ulcer disease and for those who believe that they are candidates for getting an ulcer. Throughout this book, I have tried my best to explain medical procedures and gastrointestinal physiology in plain terms that everyone can understand. Besides being an adept listener, I believe a good doctor is one who can explain treatments and treatment options to patients in such a way that patients can understand what they are being told. In spite of improved diagnostic techniques and treatments, I know that far too many Americans suffer from peptic ulcer disease. Too many people have to abstain from the foods they like and the activities they enjoy in the interest of nursing their ulcer. Love this book and the Author George Halpern. I have a stomach & esophagitis Ulcer. George Halpern explains in detail all aspects of an Ulcer and the H PYLORI bacteria which I have in simple terms. He let me understand what this condition is and recemended to the nutrient Zinc-Carnosine which I asked my gastrologist & he stated it can't hurt. My sister has a bleeding ulcer and she bought his book and stated that her ulcer is completely almost gone. She never took the anti biotacis that her physician recemended she worked with a nutritionist and with this booklet and may I say she is almost cured I love this book. I highly recemend this book for anyone who has an Ulcer to get this booklet this author who himself had a peptic ulcer (who explains what a peptic ulcer is & had an ulcer himself and did research on it really knows his stuff) by the way he is cured from his own ulcer. If you purchase this book you will always feel that you got your moneys worth and understand all about different ulcers and what to do

Husband recently learned he had an ulcer so I decided to do research on the condition. Learned a lot and thought it was a very thorough book. Took about four hours of speed reading to get through. The basics I got out of it:- for natural remedies try cabbage juice- do not use Zinc-Carnosine if you are using chemo as the chemo is used to kill cancer cells with zc it may help keep them alive.

This book is a life-saver, literally. After putting up with stomach pain for 25 plus years, I finally found something that works. Antibiotics sure didn't, and acid controllers are only a stop-gap. The pain always comes back, plus they rob your body of nutrients in your food, so you may as well be eating cardboard. (Tired all the time? Losing weight? I thought so.) I thought I would never be rid of my nasty little H. pylori, but Dr. Halpern's book finally did it. Get the book, follow his recommendations, and you can get rid of your stomachaches. Best of luck to all you sufferers out there.

I am an engineer by trade. When I read scientific text I look for clear cause and effect. This book, though not techinical at all, follows this to the letter.Think of if it as a science book for the idle reader. it is designed that anyone can read it and anyone would get the point clearly and easily.Halpern discusses reflux and ulcers in general and then the different ways of treating it starting with traditional medicine, folk remedies, abondoned medical practices all the way to state of the art medicine. All in a clear and insightful language. He explains why some things work and why some things do not work.His approach is the approach of a modern scientis. There is not guessing or estiamting. He sticks with facts and claims that are backed with studies.

Suffered with ulcers and gastritis for a while and this book has some good information on it, I would definitely recommend it

This book was short but I found it very helpful for my ulcer. The author went over pretty much everything about peptic ulcers and had many suggestions. His approach was more common sense. He suggested Zinc-Carnosine (Pepzin GI) as a solution. This product basically cured my ulcer. I would say the book is worth a purchase for that reason alone!

Not all of the information is incredibly profound, but this is the only mental health book that has ever changed my life.My parents are both alcoholics, I lived with only one growing up (the abuser). I had a decade-long relationship out of high school that really baffled me. I was disgusted by this person and they didn't treat me well, me being with them pushed others away, and I couldn't understand my undying loyalty to them or why I stayed out of pity instead of love. I also have issues with impulse control to some extent and I fail to take care of myself. I also had a hard time understanding why my role in the family was different from that of my siblings. I knew the answers somewhat, but having them put into clinical terms makes it so easy to identify and move forward in life. My life has done a complete 180 since I had these realizations last year. It's empowering knowing where your behaviors comes from, how to identity behaviors that don't serve you well, and how to act in a manner that doesn't allow your childhood to dictate the rest of your life.I randomly found the first edition at a yard sale and it's a good first step towards healing. Basic info, but sometimes you have to start at the basics.

You didn't have to have parents whom were alcoholics to read and learn from this book. Any child raised in a dysfunctional family can relate. Don't let the title throw you off.

LIKE: The book is built on observation, very few conjectures or unrealistic statements.RECOMMEND: I don't like alcohol, my dad is AA, but I have never understood the drinking obsssion. So I grew thinking I was out of the scope of AA specially because dad stopped drinking when I was 9. But now I realized at 32 years old that I am very compulsive and cannot have a balanced approach towards work, food, shopping: it has to be always at the extreme, else is not worth the experience. So I arrived to this book and I see I comply to seven of the 13 characteristics of adult children of alcoholics. THEN I recommend this book anyone who has lived with an alcoholic person.WHY 5 STARS: Based upon its utility for a person in similar circumstances.

Opened up some things for me that I wasn't aware of and I am an adult child of an alcoholic; albeit I was raised in a broken home. I was surprised how even though Dad wasn't really in our home living with us that he really WAS THERE and so was his alcoholism. It affected all of us. I'm 57 and I'm just now learning how his addiction shaped our everyday lives even into adulthood. How I cope with stress, how I don't trust people straight away, how I second guess myself constantly and how confusion, fear, manipulation, and various forms of abuse keep entering my life and the lives of my other immediate family members, and how I've chosen specific types of people who practice manipulation on me because I'm an easily identifiable peson who can be controlled and moved about as if I'm a pawn on a chess board just by them watching and listening to me- I am a people pleaser and will let anyone walk all over me. I rarely have the courage to stand up for myself because I frankly I don't know how. I don't know how because I wasn't allowed to and have been given demeaning messages about myself, my charachter, my ideas... all of my life. I have no self esteem so they know I can be controlled by the way I act. So this book and a few others have helped me to say "No more" to these people. I'm able to recognize who my manipulators are better and to back away quietly and then I begin to easily control the relationship on my terms now. I've got a long way to go but this book really did help me.

Excellent, eye opening read for anyone who has grown up with any level of familial alcohol abuse or addiction. Helps explain what happens to a persons development and self esteem when needs are not met during childhood. This book is a very good first start to understanding why you are who you are, andwhat you can do to take charge if your life. Janet Woititz's words are empowering, don't be afraid to read this book!

It helped me to understand some dynamics in my life. The book was groundbreaking at the time I read it, and I still readily offer it to those whom has similar issues than I had. A dysfunctional family structure can surely affect one actions, thinking and self-perception. The book helped me to change and make better decisions especially when it came to choosing better partners by appreciating and valuing myself more. I agreed, and I could identify with many of her ideas/concepts in the book very much. It is a very helpful book and easy-to-read one. I highly recommended it for those who can relate to its title.

This book is GORGEOUS. Even the end papers leave me breathless. I feel like I’m in the 1950s as I read this, in the best possible way. Incredibly inspiring, I might actually start cooking again.

What a pleasure to meet Cope Pineles posthumously through this book. The illustrations are delightful. Cannot fathom why none of the artists, designers, art teachers, etc, that I've known all my life never mentioned her. The recipes are a glimpse into her personal food space, of culture and heritage. Her original notations are designed as reminder notes, not recipes for the uninitiated. An understanding of food preparation is presumed. These recipe notes are not designed for the novice. The updated recipes fill in the background and details for a wider audience. Not really necessary for the seasoned cook, but very important to include in this book. Those with old world cooking skills and heritage will find many kindred moments here. Enjoyed comparing notes with Cipe through her recipes. Better late than never.

The life of Cipe was cooking and enrertaining. The recipes are revised and changed you do not have to chop off the chicken's head. Very good book with artwork.

Honestly, I don't cook. I read the story of this book in Vanity Fair and bought it for the wonderful illustrations and for the story of the original book and it's author... what a fascinating tale. If you cook, great; you'll love this book. If you just want to curl up with a good book, you'll love this book.

a truly unusual book. Beautiful drawings, warm and witty. Do not miss an uncommon revelation of a fine talent.. However, a deal of the comments of the various editors is too long.

I love the story behind this, and the illustrations, just received it, have not had a chance to try any recipes yet.
