Willie writes a story about his bicycling adventures that captivates my senses; I hear, feel, smell, taste and see each word. He is an ambassador to the world where he touches the hearts of all he encounters. I usually read Willie's books more than once and at my age of 70 it doesn't take long before it's as if I've never read it the first time.I've done some touring myself, so I can relate to a lot of what his daily life on a bike is like. It's not always sugar and spice, but an adventure around each bend.Thank you Willie for the adventure,Ray

A great collections of well written accounts from the author's journey by bicycle in foreign countries. This book brings a new perspective to getting outside your comfort zone.

Love cycling, but have never cycled long distance. Love Willie Weir's engaging writing style and way of effortlessly involving the reader in his stories immediately. This was a fun read and a great way to armchair travel to distant parts of the world!

Does what it says on the tin. Easy to read, no frills, great account of WW's travels. This is all one needs if you feel like reading a travel log. There are so many wannabe travel writers out there that should take this book as their point of reference.

This is one of those few books that I was actually unhappy finishing, only because I enjoyed it so much. The part about India was really hilarious, and glad Willie saw the humor in what can be a daunting experience for many. The journeys through India, South Africa and the Balkans showed the best aspects of humans, yet presented to him the irony of the evil humans tend to inflict on one another. A must read, full of entertainment. And since it is a collection of short stories, it is very readable and always brings on something new quickly.

I really enjoyed the tales of bicycle travel. I have traveled many thousands of miles by bicycle, but never in areas as adventurous as the author. his narratives are realistic and nail biting. His writing makes it feel like you are riding with him.

This is the second book I've read of Willie's and thoroughly enjoyed! He is a very talented writer/storyteller. He has inspired my plans for many bicycle tours in the years to come.

This is such an AWESOME book! Although I have yet to do some serious world traveling on my bike, I have begun riding further around the USA and this book just excites me so to get going on more and more road cycling adventures!

The ANSEL ADAMS 2017 WALL CALENDAR is the same as the one sold in retail bookstores at year's end, but I like to buy it from Amazon as soon as it is offered (usually in July). That way, I can write in appointments from the upcoming year as soon as they are scheduled. (Each year’s calendar includes a full page for January of the following year, but my advance appointments usually extend beyond January.)The main reason that I buy this calendar, year after year, is that the extra-large date boxes provide ample space for recording all of my family's medical appointments, upcoming meetings and activities, and other date-related reminders. I always save each used calendar as a quick reference for that entire year's appointments and activities. When hanging up, open to a full month, the calendar measures 15-1/2" wide by 25" long. The monthly photo and calendar pages each measure 15-1/2" wide by 12-1/2" long. Each month's calendar page includes a mini-calendar for last month and next month, and indicates holidays, moon phases, and important items like daylight savings time changes. The black and white photographs by Ansel Adams are beautiful, and every year's selection is different.

I buy these calendars every year. The spiral binding prevents the pages from falling apart. The blocks are large for adding lots of appointments. No one makes a better calendar. And the photos are beautiful to look at too!!

I have bought this calendar every year for over ten years now. My husband loves black and white photography and Ansel Adams is one of his all time favorites. I have never once over all of these years been disappointed with this purchase. We are very technologically inclined people, e.g. all our appointments go on a shared calendar on our electronic devices. We don't use this to keep track of appointments it's really more of a monthly changing piece of art. However, the squares for each day are plenty big so if you are more of the traditional writing type and not so technologically inclined you will for sure love this calendar. I am happy to say I will continue to purchase this annually for my husband.

This calendar is a yearly tradition for myself and my father. For him its his love of photography and Ansel Adams work, for me Its that, but more of the functional. I track my daily work schedule in the box for each day. I have over seven years worth of my daily schedules packed away in a box.I write in such a way as to not damage the print on the other side. When I have time, I will start framing some. I work by dispatch, no two days are ever the same - that goes for the people I am working with. The box is large enough to write where I worked, and with whom I worked with. This log can cover me for taxes and pension, for years to come.. Plus I have wall art! For me, this calendar is indispensable. It's a Win Win.

I opened my calendar as soon as I got it. As always with Ansel calendars, it had some photos I've seen many times before, and some I've never seen before. A photographer myself, I am enthralled by his work and it inspires me to do better. This calendar represents each image with clear and crisp reproductions. The paper stock used is up to the task of doing the art justice while standing up to the rigors of daily calendar use. I'll enjoy using and viewing the calendar all year.

The Ansel Adams Wall Calendar is perfect for us: Large, uncluttered boxes for us to add birthdays (with stars) and to note other events. This calendar has been our go-to calendar for 9-10 years. So glad to order it early from Amazon (and avoid the annual hunt). Thank you!

What's not to love? Another year of exquisite photography, reproduced on quality stock at a reasonable price! Couldn't get through the year without it.Only a slight packaging problem this year; it was shrink-wrapped tightly enough to bend the spiral binding a tad, but I'm living with it after having to have last year's replaced because it was jammed into a slightly-too-small carton. So it's getting better... ;-)

The photographs are absolutely beautiful. It feels like I have a new Ansel Adams poster in my room every month. I particularly like the aesthetic value of a pure black and white calendar with little frills and distracting colors. Also, please take note that this calendar is larger than most standard calendars. I thought nothing of it when I ordered the calendar and was a pleasantly surprised when I received the larger than normal the box than expected.

So, this was completely ridiculous and fun. I got the first book for Christmas, read it at top speed, immediately got the second, blew through it, and then had to WAIT for the third book to get my next hit of ridiculousness. This book opens only moments after the second ends and pauses not at all, flinging Zoe and Digby into the ongoing heartbreak of finding his missing sister, with a sprinkling of high school toxic gossip, plus the carryover of the football team’s steroid troubles, and much more, including of course, the swoon-worthy smoochies that ended the last book. I thoroughly enjoyed Trouble Never Sleeps, snorting with laughter as I read late into the night.I appreciated how this book managed to wrap things up without undue angst while relationships progressed with a hilarious realism. (Though not everything was completely wrapped up. Upon finishing I immediately checked to see if there might be another book on the way. I’d read the heck out of that.) Digby and Zoe didn’t fall into each other’s arms with perfect understanding. Their confessions to each other that ended the last book (spoilers!) get dialed back slightly as Zoe tries imagining what real life with Digby looks like. And what does Zoe even want? Good questions to ask at any stage and especially as you finally let yourself admit you want anything with a wacko like Digby, who to his credit, is a good guy and really into Zoe, but honest enough not to pretend to be normal. I appreciated how this book managed to wrap up on the main mystery of what happened to Digby’s sister without crushing my soul, while at the same time leaving everyone in a new place, ready for even more shenanigans.

This is the third book in the entertaining Trouble series, featuring the eccentric, talented, Sherlock Holmesesque Phillip Digby, a high school student on a mission, and the narrator, Zoe, who is a sort of unwilling sidekick plus ultra.I enjoyed the book, though maybe slightly less than the other two. I love Zoe's narrative voice, the dialogue is often witty and the characters are interesting, but the adventure itself was a bit flat and the villain disappointing.

I love Digby and it was great to see him back. I only wish that there were more adventures forthcoming.

This was a great wrap up to the trilogy. I love the characters, and they're still up to no good here. :)

This book series is just the best. Shipping was really fast too.

3.5 starsThis series has been weird for me. I didn’t care for the first one, but I liked the other two. I think I would enjoy them a lot more if I ever binged them because I went into this one with absolutely no idea wtf was going on.The relationship between Zoe and Digby is what kept me reading. I’m amused at their push and pull and odd dynamic that seems to really work for them. I still loved Sloane and their other friends, but the strangeness of it all is what I enjoyed.Plot wise, it was fast paced from the beginning and didn’t stop. The ending was intriguing and satisfying and maddening all at the same time. It doesn’t feel like it’s over and if there’s another book, I’ll be reading.**Huge thanks to Kathy Dawson Books for providing the arc free of charge**

The trouble never ends as Zoe is once again pulled into Digby's shenanigans. The banters between them were still the highlights in the novel. This was a fun book to read especially with all the references to the media from Taylor Swift to Riverdale, etc. Furthermore, Trouble Never Sleeps is something I would recommend if you need a good laugh. I guess my biggest gripe (hence I had to deduct a star) was the fact that Digby seemed OOC sometimes and how the conflict in this series was conveniently solved. The adults were ridiculous and the struggles were almost nonexistent. All in all, while I did enjoy reading the novel, it doesn't feel like it's over.*Huge thanks to the publisher for sending me an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.*

A wonderful wrap-up to a fun, smart series. I've been a fan of Digby and Princeton from the start. These kids are whip-smart, world-weary, and more observant than anyone I've ever met. Think Veronica Mars meets the Gallagher Girls. If you like a good mystery, with intelligent banter, and a side of teenage angst, this is a book for you.

Same format as earlier editions, with some updates.

Pros:-Seems to be the most current guide for SF as of my purchase date (July 2011).-LP has always been my go-to guide for both domestic and international travel. Its recommendations may not always be the best, but I think LP is the most consistently reliable guidebook. I appreciate that LP also segments restaurants/bars/accomodations by budget/midrange/high end so you can choose yourself rather than other guidebooks typically gear the entire book toward one type of traveler (Rough Guide for budget, Dorling Kindersley for higher end).-Guide features a pull-out map which was helpful.Cons:-I did not see (and I could have missed it) any public transportation maps, such as the underground or bus system. Some underground and trolley stops were marked on the pull-out maps but there was not seperate public transport guide/maps. I used the GPS function on my smartphone for bus routes, etc.-I agree with the previoius reviewer's (J. Wong's) comment about comparing LP to Trip Advisor. I have consistently found that the top Trip Advisor choices for a city are not featured in LP.

Badly organized and uninspiring.

Added little or nothing useful to the standard publication on SF. Seems to be an attempt to put out yet another book to sell. I threw it out.

In preparing for a trip to Hungary, I examined thoroughly the choices for Budapest. My favorite guidebook series has been Lonely Planet, and the Budapest Lonely Planet is fairly helpful. Although it doesn't give as thorough a treatment on accomodations, the book gives a lot of travel hints and secret. I found its facts for the visitors to be the most helpful, and the maps (placed at the very back of the book) to be the easiest to use. The frommer book, on the other hand, put the maps close to the section of the book referring to it. The organization of LP makes it easiest to use in the field; they tend to have the best background, history and cultural information. LP was particularly good about including rules, regulations and things like closing times. ON the other hand, there are not many photos, and they don't plan as many walking tours as the frommer book does. I didn't find the written descriptions that engaging, although the cultural background seemed well done. The Frommer's Budapest book (3rd edition) gave the best information about finding and choosing accomodations, but the book has no pictures and aside from a nice subway cover on the inside cover, the maps are hard to find and not very easy to use. Frommer's gives excellent information about prices and shops and restaurants; it's almost a guide to buying things rather than a tour book. I didn't find it particularly thorough about travel information, customs, or those sorts of details. That is not entirely fair. They have a nice section in the front a kind of "best of" list for things in budapest. The nice thing about the book is that it recommends things to do if you have only one day, three days or a week. They also suggested some itineraries for walking tours. The Fodor's Budapest pocket reference is drab and not full of much information. Don't get it. The Eyewitness Travel Guide on Budapest by Tadeusz Olszanski is the most eye-catching and the least helpful. It contains lots of graphics and diagrams and maps, and not too much information. The multitude of pictures are helpful in describing architecture, geography and art. On the other hand, its information on accomodations is very limited. Don't get me wrong; it's a beautiful and interesting book; it just is not as helpful as the other three. And it is two years old. I'm not necessarily saying that this book is bad, merely that it may not help you very much on the excursion. The Budapest: A Critical Guide by Andras Torok, 4th edition is a less complete and more personal account of things to do in Budapest. The other books were like encyclopedias, but this book was just a few personal recommendations about things to do and places to stay. Also, the writing for this book seems to be better than the other books. If you already are a little familiar with Budapest, but just want to learn about new and undiscovered places, this might be an excellent book. It certainly covers most of the bases, but it just doesn't try to list a huge number of accomodations or restaurants. I ended up buying the Frommer's and a used copy of the Eyewitness travel guide.

I've seen several reviews for other Lonely Planet Discover guides where people seemed unpleasantly surprised by what they got. Discover guides are not the classic Lonely Planet guides; they're a new series that was started a couple of years ago, and the originals are still being published as well.Lonely Planet describes the classic style as "the original; comprehensive; adventurous", while the Discover guides are "best-of; photo-packed; inspirational". In other words, the Discover guides don't have as much information as the original guides. What they do have is a lot of photographs and an attractive format that highlights don't-miss attractions. There's enough overlap in content that you probably won't want to buy both guides, and choosing between them will come down to individual preferences. One place where the Discover guide cuts back is on accommodations; there are only six pages of hotel listings, plus two pages of more general information. I was perfectly happy with this, since I had already chosen accommodations independently and didn't need a lot of hotel details taking up space in (and adding weight to) my travel guide. And the Discover guide does have a useful chart comparing the pros and cons of different neighbourhoods of San Francisco from the perspective of where to stay: whether they're close to sights, easy to access by public transportation, active or quiet at night, etc. This is more than enough for me when I'm just looking for a decent place to stay in a North American city; I expect that pretty much any hotel will turn out to be acceptable. It's only when I'm travelling farther afield to places where I might face language or cultural barriers that I worry more about every detail. I don't know whether I'd buy a Discover guide for, say, Egypt, but for San Francisco it worked for me.I've also found that I really appreciate the photo-heavy, highlights-focused approach when I'm just visiting a city for a short time. I might read a travel guide in great detail if I'm going somewhere for three weeks, but three days is a completely different matter. I want to be shown top attractions in an appealing format, and quickly; I'm not going to invest more time in reading the guidebook than I'll be spending on the trip. The Discover San Francisco guide does exactly what I want: I can quickly flip through it to get a sense of what the top sights are and decide what I actually want to see. The photos help a lot with this, and the various attractions also seem to be split up more into individual chunks, rather than listed as part of a paragraph, which again makes it friendlier for skimming rather than sitting down and reading.I've so far used this for a day trip to San Francisco with hardly any planning, and it worked out well; I was satisfied with the attractions that I saw and the limited time that I had to put into doing research beforehand. We didn't even plot out our whole day in advance, but chose a couple of major sights and then used the guidebook to hit other highlights nearby. If that's the kind of trip that you're looking for--a quick visit without a lot of advance planning--then this may be the book for you. But if you want to research every detail ahead of time, then you'll probably prefer the more thorough classic guide.Even for my purposes, this Discover guide wasn't perfect, though. For one thing, I would have liked a transit map or some other useful reference on the back inside cover, instead of just advertisements for other Lonely Planet guides. I also would have liked a reference section of maps at the back of the book, instead of just the pull-out map. There are neighbourhood maps in various sections, but I sometimes wanted an overview, and I find it awkward to deal with a fold-out map while simultaneously walking around carrying a guidebook. Finally, I would have liked the individual attractions to be indexed more precisely to the various maps. The maps have an alpha-numeric grid system around the edges, so why not make use of it by specifying the location of each attraction? I've seen this done in the Mini Rough Guide to New York, so it's not unheard of, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to have caught on.Despite these issues, though, I'm satisfied with this book overall. I certainly prefer it to the Frommer's San Francisco guide, which seems to target a more upscale (read: free with their money) audience. This Discover guide achieved its goal of providing an appealing, photo-heavy book that quickly helped me pick out the top attractions that I wanted to see.

Amazon.com Review

"Pb-pb-b-b-b. Pb-pb-b-b-b." With these magic vocables, Ralph the mouse revs up a dream come true--his very own motorcycle. Living in a knothole in a hotel room, young Ralph has seen plenty of families come and go, some more generous with their crumbs than others. But when young Keith and his parents check in to the hotel, Ralph gets his first chance to check out. He has always fantasized about venturing beyond the second floor, maybe even outside. Curiosity overcomes caution, and Ralph must have a go at Keith's toy motorcycle. Soon, the headstrong mouse finds himself in a pickle, when all he wanted was to ride a motorcycle. Lucky for him, the boy understands how it is. When he discovers Ralph in his thwarted attempt to abscond with the toy bike, Keith generously encourages the rodent to ride. He even teaches him the simple trick of starting the motorcycle: "You have to make a noise... pb-pb-b-b-b." The subsequent situations Ralph motors into require quick thinking and grownup-sized courage. The team of Beverly Cleary and Louis Darling has been a great favorite for decades, introducing young chapter readers to Ramona, Beezus, Henry, and of course Ralph the mouse. One might know that if Beverly Cleary were to invent a mouse, it would be a down-to-earth, boyish mouse with a proclivity for getting into scrapes. A good story! (Chicago Tribune)

This review is written by my 4 yr old.I love everything about this story. My favorite part is when the mouse rides the motorcycle and when the boy talks to the mouse. I wish I could talk to a mouse too!

I am a school teacher and I try to buy a class set of these books EVERY YEAR!!! ... for Christmas presents! We read this book aloud each fall and I sew Ralph the Mouse finger puppets and put a half Ping-Pong ball with rubber band helmet on it... I also buy little party favor motorcycle toys at Walmart and the kids have LOVED it every year so far! This is my ALL TIME favorite novel for kids!

Summary: About a boy named Keith who stayed in the motel room, where a mouse named Ralph lived. Keith brings some toy cars including a motorcycle, and while he is gone Ralph climbs up the telephone cord and tries to ride the motorcycle. However, he did not know how to start it. He pushed the ground with his feet and rode it around the bedspread and used his heels for brakes. Then, the telephone gave a loud ring, and startled, Ralph forgot to use his heels and fell into the wastebasket. Then, at night, Keith looked inside the basket and was surprised to find a mouse. They spoke the same language, which was no surprise because they both shared a love for motorcycles. Keith showed Ralph how to start the motorcycle, and even provided Ralph's family with food from the kitchen. One night, Keith feels sick, and his parents try to find aspirin. When they can't find it anyplace, Ralph decides to find it for him. There is a thrilling adventure ahead for the mouse, and will Ralph get the tablet on time? Read the story to find out. It has a naturally flowing plot. Got me really into it. Deserves an applause. Genre: Realistic Fiction

After listening to the first 6 books of our favorite, Hank the Cowdog, I decided to expand my 5 yo grandson's horizons with another of our family favorites. I have read all of them to my older children but this is the first we've listened to on cd. It is great. It captivated his interest from the start. I do have one minor negative to mention...the voice for Ralph's (the mouse) mother is very annoying to me. It sounds like a stereotypical Jewish or Bronx mother...but Ralph is from California. Regardless, it doesn't bother my grandson and that's what counts. I was surprised that Ralph speaks a little meanly to his little cousins and siblings (not remembering that from the books) but I make little comments to my grandson about it as it happens. We listened to Runaway Ralph right after this one. The next one is not available on cd that I could find, but I will be reading that one to my grandson. He can do the sound effects as I read.

Ralph the Mouse lives with his family in a hotel. Kevin and his family stay in the hotel where Ralph sees Kevin's toy motorcycle and desires to ride it. After all, it is the perfect size for a mouse. Ralph gets a chance to ride it but he gets into a lot of trouble which puts his family in trouble. Ralph also gets some side benefits for his family though. When tragedy happens Ralph is there to help.I enjoyed this story. It was fun and imaginative. I liked how Ralph was independent but thoughtful of his family. When he gets into trouble he knows when to admit it and tries to find ways that will undo the hardship on his family. I liked the courage he shows when Kevin needs help.I enjoy Ms. Cleary's books. I plan to enjoy more of them no matter what my age.

My 4th grader and 1st grader love to read, and we got this audio book for car rides. It is read by B.D. Wong (he is an actor that used to be on Law & Order SVU). Wong was a great reader and provided excellent voices for all of the characters in this beloved story by Beverly Cleary. As an adult, I even enjoyed listening to the book...most likely because Wong read it so well. He has a background on Broadway and really brought some voice talent to the reading. I find my liking of an audio book greatly depends on how well it is read out loud, this book had a great reader and was a fun story for my kids. The Mouse and the Motorcycle CD (Ralph Mouse)

I loved the whole story and all the little details that made it worth reading. I have it on my Kindle and I'm definitely keeping it. Anyone who wanted to see a story about a mouse and his adventures should read this book. I didn't get a chance to read it when I was younger but now I got to read it again and now I'm happy. You will be happy too once you read this.

I have been trying to find a book that will capture all my students (3rd, 5th, & 6th graders) attention and help develop a love for reading. This is it! They lay down for rest time quickly so that I will start reading.
